‘Ball In The Family’ Kicks Off Season 2 By Addressing LiAngelo Ball’s Arrest

Things don’t always go as planned.

That’s one of the early taglines from Season 2, Episode 1 of the ‘Ball in the Family’ Facebook docuseries, which kicked off on Sunday night. Within the first 90 seconds, the show addressed the Nov. 7 shoplifting arrest of middle Ball child and UCLA men’s basketball player LiAngelo Ball while overseas in China.

“Can we cut the camera real quick?” it appears the youngest Ball, LaMelo, says with his back to the camera as the arrest is first discussed in the episode.

“Yep,” two voices are heard saying, though it’s unclear who exactly it is.

Around LiAngelo’s arrest on Nov. 9, Facebook told Sports Business Chronicle that the production staff filming for the Facebook Watch docuseries wasn’t recording at the time of the shoplifting incident, making it too early to say how or if the incident would be covered in the show.

Throughout news of the arrest, which eventually sparked a back-and-forth feud between father LaVar Ball and President Donald Trump, Ball mother Tina was the one family member noticeably upset and crying about the situation in the first episode. During the season premiere, she appears to either FaceTime or Skype with LiAngelo at one point as well.

Since LaVar and Trump began their dispute on Nov. 17, over $13 million in advertising value has been generated for Big Baller Brand, according to ESPN’s Darren Rovell (as of Nov. 22).

“Everybody is really concerned. We are, too, really, really concerned,” a voice is heard saying at the end of the clip.

At the time of this writing, a Facebook spokesperson was unavailable to confirm if the LiAngelo Ball arrest in China would be further highlighted in the 13-episode Season 2.
